Frequently Asked Questions

At Perry Dental, we want every patient to feel informed, comfortable, and confident about their dental care. Below are answers to some of the questions we hear most often. If you have additional questions, our team is always happy to help!

New Patients & Appointments

What can I expect at my first dental visit?

Your first visit is about more than just checking your teeth — it’s about getting to know you, understanding your goals, and creating a plan for your long-term oral health.

During your visit, we will review your health history, complete a thorough dental examination, take any necessary digital X-rays and images, and discuss our findings and recommendations with you.

We believe in educating our patients so you can make confident decisions about your care.

How long does my first appointment take?

Your first appointment is typically longer than a routine visit because we take the time to get to know you, complete a comprehensive evaluation, and answer your questions. Appointment times vary depending on your individual needs.

Do you accept new patients?

Yes! We welcome new patients of all ages and would love the opportunity to care for your smile. Whether you are looking for a new dental home, have recently moved to the area, or it has been years since your last visit, our team is here to help.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Most patients benefit from visiting the dentist every six months for preventive care. However, your recommended schedule may vary depending on your oral health needs, gum health, and any ongoing treatment.

Do you treat children?

Yes! We provide family dentistry and welcome patients of all ages. We enjoy helping children develop positive experiences with dental care and building healthy habits that last a lifetime.

What if I haven’t been to the dentist in years?

You are not alone! Many patients come to us after being away from the dentist for years. Our team will meet you where you are, focus on your goals, and create a comfortable plan to improve your oral health.

Dental Anxiety & Comfort

I’m nervous about going to the dentist. What can I expect?

You are not alone. We understand that dental visits can feel stressful for some patients, and our team is committed to creating a comfortable, welcoming, and judgment-free experience.

We will explain each step, answer your questions, and make sure you feel informed throughout your visit.

Will my dental treatment hurt?

Our goal is to make every appointment as comfortable as possible. We use modern techniques and technology to provide gentle, efficient care. We encourage you to communicate any concerns so we can help make your experience a positive one.

Can I ask questions during my appointment?

Absolutely! We believe informed patients make confident decisions. We encourage you to ask questions and be involved in your care every step of the way.

Emergency Dental Care

What should I do if I have a dental emergency?

If you are experiencing dental pain, a broken tooth, a lost filling, swelling, or another urgent dental concern, contact our office as soon as possible. Our team will help determine the best next step and schedule care when needed.

What qualifies as a dental emergency?

Dental emergencies may include severe tooth pain, facial swelling, a knocked-out tooth, a broken tooth, uncontrolled bleeding, or signs of infection.

If you are unsure whether your situation is an emergency, we encourage you to call our office.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Contact our office immediately. If possible, handle the tooth carefully by the crown (the visible portion), avoid touching the root, and keep it moist by placing it in milk or a tooth preservation solution until you receive care.

Oral Health Questions

What can I do to keep my teeth healthy between visits?

Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, floss regularly, maintain a balanced diet, and keep your recommended dental appointments. Small daily habits make a big difference in maintaining your oral health.

Are dental X-rays safe?

Yes. Dental X-rays use very low levels of radiation and allow us to detect problems that may not be visible during a regular examination.

Why do my gums bleed when I brush or floss?

Bleeding gums can be a sign of inflammation or gum disease. If your gums bleed regularly, we recommend discussing it with your dental team so we can help identify the cause and recommend appropriate care.

Insurance & Payments

Do you accept my dental insurance?

We work with many dental insurance plans. Because every plan is different, we recommend contacting your insurance company to confirm your specific benefits, coverage details, deductibles, waiting periods, and limitations.

Our team is happy to help you understand your estimated costs and assist with the insurance process.

Will you verify my insurance before my appointment?

Our team will gather your insurance information and assist with verifying benefits whenever possible. However, your insurance provider determines your final coverage and payment responsibility.

How much will my appointment cost?

The cost of dental care depends on your individual needs, recommended treatment, and insurance benefits. Before beginning treatment, we will review your options and discuss estimated costs so you can make an informed decision.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept cash, check, debit cards, and credit cards. We also offer flexible financing through CareCredit and Cherry to help make dental care more manageable. For patients without dental insurance, our Perry Dental Membership Plan offers an affordable way to receive preventive care and other included benefits at a predictable cost.

Do you offer financing options?

Yes! We offer financing options through CareCredit and Cherry, allowing patients to choose payment options that work best for their budget.

Services & Treatment Questions

Do you offer teeth whitening?

Yes! We offer professional take-home whitening options to help you brighten your smile from the comfort of your own home. Choose from convenient ready-to-use whitening trays or custom-fitted trays with professional-grade whitening gel. Our team will provide instructions to help you whiten safely and effectively.

What is CEREC same-day crown technology?

CEREC technology allows us to design, create, and place many dental crowns in a single visit. Using advanced digital scanning and in-office milling technology, we can create a custom crown without the need for traditional impressions or a temporary crown in many cases.

How do I know if I need a crown?

A crown may be recommended when a tooth needs additional strength, protection, or restoration due to damage, decay, cracks, large fillings, or after certain procedures such as root canal treatment.

We will evaluate your tooth and explain all available treatment options so you can make the best decision for your smile.

What are my options for replacing missing teeth?

There are several options for replacing missing teeth, including dental implants, bridges, and dentures. The best solution depends on your oral health, goals, lifestyle, and individual needs.

During your consultation, we will discuss your options and help you determine the right solution for your smile.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a long-term solution for replacing missing teeth. An implant uses a small titanium post placed in the jaw to support a custom restoration designed to look, feel, and function like a natural tooth.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Many patients who are missing one or more teeth may be candidates for dental implants. Factors such as bone health, overall health, and your specific goals help determine whether implants are the right choice.

We will complete a thorough evaluation and discuss your options with you.

Why should I consider replacing a missing tooth?

Replacing a missing tooth can help restore your ability to chew comfortably, maintain your bite, support surrounding teeth, and improve confidence in your smile.

Our team will help you understand your options and find a solution that fits your needs.

What is Invisalign, and how does it work?

Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners customized to gradually move your teeth into their ideal position. The aligners are comfortable, discreet, and allow you to continue eating and caring for your teeth normally throughout treatment.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Many patients with crowded teeth, gaps, spacing concerns, or mild to moderate bite issues may benefit from Invisalign.

During a consultation, we will evaluate your smile and determine whether Invisalign is the right option for your goals.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Treatment time varies depending on your individual needs and smile goals. During your consultation, we will create a personalized treatment plan and provide an estimated timeline.

What dental technology do you use?

We use advanced technology to provide accurate diagnoses, comfortable experiences, and predictable results. Our technology includes digital X-rays, CBCT imaging, digital scanning, and CEREC same-day crown technology.
